Test Your Way To Greater Conversions and Internet Success!

July 3rd, 2008 · No Comments · Web Traffic

Testing your website pages, especially landing pages, squeeze pages and sales pages is one of the most profitable things you can do to tweak your pages and gain higher conversions. On top of that, you can learn more about copywriting though split tests and other means of testing your web pages than any other way.

The Spiritual Entrepreneur

Back in the days of mail order marketing, testing sales letters and catalogs gathered more real information about new concepts and ideas than through most other methods of research at that time. In these days of the internet, the bell even rings louder.

You can test whole concepts of your pages to find out what emotional triggers and core desires your market truly respond to. Simply test two or three versions of your sales page that each focus on a separate theme or slant on the product or service. The page that pulls the most conversions will give you the answers you are looking for.

In this day of fierce online competition, testing is something you should, no MUST do to gain the highest conversions from your website and pages. If you’re not actively testing your pages, your competition will soon pass you by.

What Exactly Should You Be Testing?

The simple answer is: Everything! Everything on your pages and in your sales message is a contributing factor to your conversion rate. This includes your headline, opening paragraphs, body copy, your offer, post scripts, background color, font, font colors, images and every imaginable component of your page in between.

Volumes of information have been written about what to test and how to test your web pages. This work is extensive, so when you begin to test, I suggest you concentrate your first efforts on the three areas that have been shown to have the most impact on your sales page, the headline, the first three (or four) opening paragraphs, and your offer.

In this article, I will focus on Headlines as they are the critical element of your page.

Testing Headlines

Headline changes can have the most impact on your conversion rate and response of these three components. 75 - 80% of your visitors will never read past the headline. It doesn’t matter how wonderful you have written your sales page, if the headline doesn’t work correctly and do its job of getting people to read on, your page will be a failure.

In order for your headline to be effective, you have to discover the biggest core desires within your market to feed. The best headline test are based around the different core desires and motivating reasons why people would be interested in your product or service.

Testing different headlines around different concepts will tell you which one is more appealing to your market audience. Once you have the key concepts and desires tested and you have discovered which one works best, you then go to work tweaking your headline in more alluring and persuasive ways.

Split testing is generally used to test headlines. In the beginning, you will probably want to use simple A/B split testing but if you are dealing with high volume traffic and high price sales, you may want to consider speeding up the process with multi-variate testing. You can find out more about these tests by going to: What Is Split Testing?.

What Type of Headline Format Do You Test?

There are some classic headline formats that have been shown to be effective over time that you can begin with. There’s the “If/Then” headline, “Amazing Secrets of …” headline, the “Who Else Wants to …” headline, and of course the classic ” How to …” headline.

Test as many headlines as you can think up for your web page. In fact, you should never stop testing different headlines on your page. A simple 10% increase in your conversions could result in hundreds to tens of thousands of dollar or more. Testing your headlines could bring an increase of 50%, 100%, or even 200% or more in the response your web page brings.

The next time that you feel that your landing page, sales page or squeeze page should be converting better, think about testing the component of your page to increase the effectiveness and response that it should be eliciting.

You can easily attract visitors to your website by offering them a free eCourse that will teach them something they are interested in. If you offer a good eCourse that is well targeted to people’s interests they will come to your site to get the free information.

The Spiritual Entrepreneur

When you offer people a good quality eCourse or newsletter you build trust. By offering for website visitors this great free service first, they will be more likely to want to purchase products from you. You will build up a good reputation for being knowledgeable about the subjects they are interested in.

eCourses that are delivered through email are becoming very popular and people sign up for these on a regular basis. You can also include advertising for your products or affiliate programs from within the eCourse. Offering an eCourses is a great way to get traffic to your website.

Setting up an eCourse is very easy. All you need is five to 30 days of emails set up and ready to go. Next, all you need to do is set them up in an autoresponder. You can set up the autoresponder to be distributed at specific intervals. Depending on the content of your eCourse all you need to do is determine how often the lessons should go out.

Once you have all your autoresponder emails set up, all you need to do is set up an opt in page where people can subscribe to your eCourse. Once you have everything set in place all you need to do is get traffic to your opt in page and then everything will run on autopilot from there.

Take some time to determine what your eCourse will be about and how many days you would like it to be. Then determine whether it needs to be sent every day, every other day or once a week. Once you have set up your opt in page and your subscribers start getting the lessons, it is all hands free for you.

Make sure that you run a test first on the autoresponders to make sure that the lessons are coming to you. This way you can make sure that each email is formatted correctly and that everything looks right. You want to be sure that your eCourse will go out to your subscribers looking professional.

You can set up several eCourses on different subjects related to your products or services and before you know it all your promotions will be running on autopilot.

Fast Traffic with BlogRush

May 15th, 2008 · No Comments · Small Business, Web Traffic

This is the first article in my series or experiments with some new web marketing tools.

Over the last 4 years I’ve spent a crazy amount of time using the various online tools and ideas. Of the literally hundreds of web tools that I’ve tried the one that started getting results fastest is called BlogRush.

BlogRush is a free widget that you can add to your blog. It literally takes about 2 minutes to sign up and add the code. If you use WordPress as I do then just paste their code snippet into a widget and leave it on your sidebar.

Each blog is individually approved so it may take some time before the code shows up on your sidebar. This is a GOOD thing. BlogRush goes to a lot of trouble to be sure that every blog listed meets certain minimum standards. This means that when your readers see an interesting headline they can be sure that it actually leads to a real article rather than ‘article spam’.

This quality control also works in your favor because it gives more credibility to your blog. If you get turned down initially then take some time at the BlogRush website and see what type of blogs get approved. Read their FAQ’s. You can resubmit your blog after 30 days.

In my opinion the BlogRush system can actually improve blogging because it holds bloggers to a higher standard, something that is sorely needed.

Each time the widget loads you’ll see 5 headlines from other blogs. Your readers can click on those headlines and view other complimentary blog posts. When your readers click on the links a new browser window opens with the post they wanted to see.

Before the competition demon rears its ugly head let me point out that you should be putting articles and posts on your blog that make your readers stick to you. You should NOT be worried that your readers will click off your website and run off with some other blogger.

You earn a ‘Syndication Credit’ each time the widget loads on your site as well as when your readers click on the widgets headlines. The more syndication credit you earn the more often the headlines of your blog are shown throughout the network.

Using Leverage

Those of you who have read my book ‘The Spiritual Entrepreneur‘ will be familiar with the concept of leverage. One reason that I recommend BlogRush is because they use this leverage out to 10 levels.

The widget on your page has a very small link at the bottom that says “Add Your Blog”. When other bloggers click on this link and sign up with BlogRush you get a referral credit. The referral credits leverage out to 10 levels.

You can also get referral credits by referring new users via a referral link.

Take the time to explore BlogRush. It can be a great tool for syndicating your blog as well as building your credibility.
